Nothing the cop said was connecting with the man…until he brought up football.
If you came across a stranger who was in the process of taking his own life, would you know what to say? Would you know what to do?

I’m not convinced that any of us would know how to approach that situation—even Officer Michael Blackmore, who recently talked a man out of committing suicide on the side of a bridge.
After responding to a call about a man who was preparing to jump, Blackmore tried talking to the man about his family, his friends and his job. When none of those worked, he resorted to America’s pastime—football.
In this incredible body-cam footage, you can see the man finally engage with Blackmore. The two began bonding over their hatred for the Dallas Cowboys.
“I just wanted to get his mind off of what was bothering him,” said Blackmore.
The officer began suggesting the conversations the two could have after the game on Sunday, and the game next week.
He earned the man’s trust, and in the minutes that followed, the responders on scene were able to rescue the man and save his life.
Since the incident occurred, over 80 million people have viewed Blackmore’s heroic deed. Praise God for planting this brave cop at exactly the right place and time to save a stranger’s life.
